The five articles the most people are editing at once, right now. Many different editors converging on one page within an hour is Wikipedia's own early-warning signal that something just happened: a death, a disaster, a result, a release.

Wikipedia articles about places within 10 km of you, ranked by whichever was edited most recently. Adopt a town by searching it once. The location is remembered in this browser, so reopening the page picks up right where you left off.
Use your location or search a place to see nearby edits.
| Article | Distance | Last edited | By | Summary |
|---|
Source: MediaWiki Action API list=geosearch (10,000 m radius, 50 results max) plus a batched
prop=revisions lookup for each result's latest edit, both called directly from your browser.
Place-name search goes through
wiki_pulse_geocode.php, a same-origin passthrough to Nominatim (OpenStreetMap) required
only because Nominatim needs a server-set User-Agent header. Your coordinates are kept in this browser's
local storage and never sent to LiveObservatory's own server.
Maintenance filter: a row is flagged when the editor currently holds Wikipedia's "bot" user right
(checked live via list=users&usprop=groups) or the edit summary matches a known
mechanical pattern: template/infobox parameter fixes, category moves, dead-link reformatting,
MOS:OVERLINK delinking, and similar. It's a heuristic, not a guarantee; toggle the checkbox above
to see everything.
Any subject (a company, a person, an event, a fandom, anything with Wikipedia articles about it), ranked by whichever related article was edited most recently. Search once and it's remembered, the same way an adopted town is on the Near You tab.
Search a subject to see its most recently edited related articles.

Source: MediaWiki Action API generator=search (CirrusSearch, article namespace, top 50 matches)
combined with prop=revisions in a single request, called directly from your browser, no LO
server involved. Same maintenance filter as Near You: a row is flagged when the editor currently holds
Wikipedia's "bot" user right or the summary matches a known mechanical pattern. Results are Wikipedia's own
relevance ranking for the search term, then re-sorted by how recently each was edited. A broad or generic
term can pull in tangential matches, since relevance and recency are independent signals.
